Nusa Dua means literally ‘Two Islands’ - even though they actually are small elevated head-lands, each with a small temple.
But Nusa Dua is much better known as Bali’s gated reserve of resort hotels. It’s a wide and manicured locationwhere you almost leave Bali (enven Indonesia) as you cross the gates.
No more street sellers, hustle, bustle or any of the chaos that defines the rest of the island. Created in the 1970s, Nusa Dua was build to compete with worldwide seaside resorts over the world . The aim was to appleal to free-spending holiday-makers while maintaining them away from the rest of the region.
With a large number of hotel rooms Nusa Dua took on a definite life when it was 100% occupied. But nowadays occupancy has decreased, with many people who want an private seaside holiday heading in a different place. The Bali Collection, a continually rebuilt mall (to attract more customers), is quite desolate.
However, the hotel grounds are as well groomed as the personnel and there is a large range of services at these locations.
Right outside the entrance, the small town of Bualu is a genuine Balinese town.It has shops with reasonable rates and tourist dining places that might not be out of place in Kuta.
